COTECMAR and Damen Sign Landmark Contract for Colombian Navy Frigate.
This historic contract was for constructing the Colombian Navy’s first locally built frigate. This project, carried out in Cartagena, Colombia, marks a major milestone for the nation’s naval capabilities and its maritime industry.
◾First-of-its-Kind in Colombia: The frigate, based on Damen’s SIGMA 10514 model, is the first to be built in Colombia, signifying a leap forward in the country’s defense manufacturing capabilities.
◾Significant Economic Impact: The construction will boost local employment and technological development, enhancing the Colombian maritime industry and the national economy.
◾Strategic Dimensions: The vessel will measure 107.5 meters in length and 14.02 meters in beam, showcasing Colombia’s growing ability to build complex naval vessels.
◾Latin American Leadership: With this project, Colombia joins Mexico and Brazil as one of the few Latin American countries capable of constructing such sophisticated naval ships domestically.
