McDermott International closes contract in Malaysia
McDermott International, Inc. has secured a major contract from Malaysia Marine and Heavy Engineering Sdn Bhd (MMHE) to contribute to the Kasawari Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) project, located in the waters off Sarawak, East Malaysia.
The contract involves the transportation and installation of various components for the project. This includes a pipeline spanning 138 kilometers (about 85 miles), a CCS platform deck weighing 15,000 metric tons, and a bridge that will connect to the central processing platform already in operation.
This project is one of the largest marine CCS initiatives in the world by highlighting McDermott’s critical role in supporting customers during the transition to more sustainable energy sources.
Installation tasks will be carried out using one of McDermott’s specialist heavy lift and pipe laying vessels.
Managed by PETRONAS Carigali, the Kasawari CCS project is expected to significantly reduce carbon dioxide emissions, specifically targeting a reduction of around 3.3 million tonnes of CO2 equivalent per year, which are currently released through flaring activities.
