MEXICO – SBM Offshore Lands Major FSO Contract for Trion Deepwater Oil Field!
The company has signed a pivotal contract with Woodside Energy Petróleo Operaciones de México to construct and lease a state-of-the-art Floating Storage and Offloading (FSO) unit. This FSO will support the Trion deepwater oil field in Mexico’s Perdido Belt for 20 years.
◾ Innovative Design: The FSO, based on a Suezmax-type hull, will include a Disconnectable Turret Mooring (DTM) system, allowing it to store up to 950,000 barrels of crude oil at a depth of approximately 2,500 meters.
◾Strategic Location: The Trion field lies 180 km off Mexico’s coastline and 30 km south of the US/Mexico maritime border, underscoring the region’s growing importance in deepwater oil exploration.
◾Partnership Dynamics: The Trion project is a collaborative effort between Woodside (60%, Operator) and PEMEX Exploración y Producción (40%, non-Operator), reinforcing international cooperation in Mexico’s energy sector.
◾Long-term Commitment: The FSO contract complements SBM Offshore’s 2023 award for the Transportation & Installation contract for both the FSO and Floating Production Unit (FPU), highlighting the company’s expanding role in offshore oil and gas infrastructure.
