China’s CNOOC International Achieves Major Milestone with Lingshui 36-1 Gas Field!
In a groundbreaking development, the Lingshui 36-1 gas field has been approved by Chinese authorities, marking a significant achievement in global energy exploration. This gas field is the world’s first large-size ultra-shallow gas field located in ultra-deep waters, setting a new frontier in the South China Sea.
Located in the southern part of the Central Sag, Qiongdongnan Basin, the Lingshui 36-1 gas field has a water depth of approximately 1,500 meters, and the burial depth is about 210 meters. The gas field is a testament to decades of exploration and discovery in the region, where multiple large-size gas fields have been identified.
This discovery adds over 100 billion cubic meters of proved gas in-place to the area’s reserves, pushing the total proved gas in-place in the South China Sea beyond one trillion cubic meters. The successful exploration and development of this ultra-shallow gas reservoir underline the significance of deepwater projects in China’s future energy landscape.
